Ships Wintering in Duluth

With the arrival of ice on the Great Lakes, the Soo Locks are scheduled to close to shipping at midnight this Friday.   The Port of Duluth-Superior is expecting seven lakers to winter over in their harbor, including the Herbert C. Jackson, which is taking advantage of the break for a major repowering project at the Frasier Shipyard. The last “saltie” left Duluth the week before Christmas, in order to clear the St. Lawrence Seaway before it closed on December 31^st.   The Soo Locks are scheduled to reopen on March 25^th, 2016.
