Lake Huron’s isolated sinkhole ecosystems aren’t the only mysterious depressions in the region. Sinkholes have also formed miles inland from Lake Huron, often interconnected by underground “pipelines” of groundwater that alter lake levels and can alter neighboring shorelines.
Go along on a hike to explore these rare and recently discovered natural features in northeast Michigan, which scientists have compared to Yellowstone geysers due to the peculiar organisms found within them.
