The efforts to restore and protect Lake Superior’s Buffalo Reef are just one example of a Great Lakes habitat restoration project.
The region is rife with similar projects as well as vastly different ones that all have the same goal: restoring habitat. Many of those projects, including the Buffalo Reef restoration, are funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
For anyone looking for more information on the Buffalo Reef restoration or curious about other GLRI projects, the U.S. EPA created an interactive map that the public can access to keep track of where the various projects are, what their status is and how much money is being directed to each one.
“It gives people and organizations who care about protecting and restoring the lakes an idea of the restoration work that is being done,” an EPA spokesperson said.
The map is available online at the EPA website.
